A Time To Sow, A Time To Reap…A Time To Rest…

August 16th, 2008 posted by jcrowl

To everything there is a season.  And right now for some of us it to rest and heal.  For projects to move slowly.

Pastor Tom Anderson, who is a board member and our spiritual director, has been recovering from a peripheral aneurysm behind his knee.  A fearful thing as he could have lost his leg and even his life.  Thankfully he is with us, fully limbed and recovering.  He’s getting around well, his restrictions have been lifted except that he should not kneel and squat for long periods of time.  We are so grateful that he is doing well.

I am recovering from knee surgery that took place this past Tuesday.  Aging, arthritic and damaged knees — this time the right one — have created havoc in my life.  I begin physical therapy on Monday.   I am grateful to be recovering.  I am even more grateful for my dear husband Dan (you know the guy who was consulting in Canada recently) as he cares for me.  And to Dianne and Gary Hansen for feeding us and others who are providing meals.

The band is preparing to go back to our fall schedule.  Beginning in September we will sing at the following nursing homes on the following days of the month:  Cypress Manor, Hancock, the first Saturday; Houghton County, Hancock, the second Saturday; Portage Pointe, Hancock, the second Sunday, and Bayside Village, L’Anse, the last Sunday of the month.

We are also planing to visit our friends in Munising once again, this time on October 12th.  We will be meeting with many of the congregations in the city and demonstrating our ministry to them.

Work continues on the Liberty Street Project.  Byran and his cousin Dan soldier along with finishing the drywall and preparing the walls for painting.   The bathroom, and the heating and cooling will also be installed this fall.

We were able to donate to a gal by the name of Amy and her family the drywall for one room. They will do the work themselves.  We are grateful to be able to help them make their home more livable.

Mike and Dan have been working at Anderson’s home to finish work they started last week. They are there as I write this blog. Bless them for their work.

In the Midst of Not Writing, But Lots of Action…Gratitude

What can I say?  Things are finally slowing down and I am here at the keyboard ready to connect with you all once again about AGMK and our activities. What a busy summer this has been!  Wonderful and yet sad, too.

I am so very grateful to some very special people: The God’s Country Cooperative Parish team from the Eastern Upper Peninsula for joining us for a week of mission and to work on the Liberty Street Project.   The Youth and adults from Immanuel Community Reformed Church  for joining us for an extra busy week where we worked on two projects: on the Liberty Street Project and the Union Street Ramp.  We were so blessed by their work and their presence.  And a special thanks to Mark of Blue Spruce Construction for pitching in and being part of the GCCP team — we can’t thank you enough.

We are so grateful for the Fennimore, WI UMC mission team for their donation and we are so looking forward to meeting you (Renee — e-mail me and perhaps we can schedule a visit this fall — a concert perhaps to help you raise money for your projects?).

Then sadness: the death of leader Mike’s brother Kevin.   He was a faithful man, so we know where he is today!

And thanks to Dick Storm of Eagle radio and his cohort Todd for hosting Mike and I on “Keep It In the UP”.  We enjoyed our chat and best of all people have responded with donations for which we are very thankful.

PRAYERS

Prayers for traveling mercies as band roadie and tech Dan heads out to work in Nova Scotia once again, flying today and working the next two days.  Tentatively scheduled to fly back home on Tuesday, Aug 5th.

Prayers for a great year for Dan — his birthday is Monday, Aug. 4th — 59 and going strong.  What a great guy — I am so grateful for such a wonderful, faithful, loving husband and a father to our son Geof.

Prayers for Mike as he struggles with health problems.  They are debilitating and we ask for pain relief and healing.

Please keep Kevin’s family, Mike’s brother’s family, (wife Tina and children Jade, Mariah and Conner) in your prayers.

Keep our board member and Pastor, Tom Anderson, in your prayers.  He experienced an aneurysm in a vein behind his knee — scary.  He was transported to Marquette (MI) and subsequently had surgery and almost a one week stay.  He is home.  Please support his recovery in prayer.  Give thanks for his medical treatment.

Keep the Water Street Project cleanup activities in your prayers — we are heading out this afternoon to do this and that to the project area.

Keep the Munising UMW in prayer.  These are great ladies and we are so grateful to their support and prayer.

Keep the Ruth Circle at Grace Church in prayer as they celebrate their summer picnic this August 5th.

Thanks and blessings to you all.  More to come later.

Second Mission Week Draws to An End

I can’t believe that we have been so busy with the ICRC Mission Team this week that I have only had the energy to come home and prepare for the next day.  It has definitely been a productive, learning and growing week for all.  And, I praise God for that.  Today they will finish up the Union Street Ramp — pictures later.  It has been a touching and demanding job.  And the drywall will be up at Liberty Street.  Perhaps they will even start mudding — !! Then this evening we will celebrate with communion, a cookout and an ice cream social! What a week!  I ask for your prayers as the ICRC team finishes their time in the UP and for their travels home.  I ask for God’s Blessings on them as they go off in the coming year, returning to jobs, school and home.

What a Week — TY God’s Country Cooperative Parish Team!
